NSRI Water Safety
Training Facility
The NSRI Water Safety Training Facility is a cornerstone of the National Sea Rescue Institute’s mission to proactively prevent drowning through education and skill-building. These innovative centres, often featuring the award-winning Survival Swimming Centres built from repurposed shipping containers, provide a safe, controlled environment for children and community members to learn essential water skills. By focusing on breath control, orientation, floating, and propulsion, the facility empowers those in high-risk or under-resourced areas with the confidence to survive unexpected water encounters. More than just a pool, it is a dedicated hub for life-saving education, bystander CPR training, and the cultivation of a robust culture of water safety across South Africa.
Through stimulating and adventurous experiences, participants learn about themselves and their colleagues, while developing key life skills such as communication, cooperation, and leadership.
