High Africa offers a range of group-oriented accommodation and camping options, including the High Africa Main Camp and Under the Blue Gums Camp. These venues are ideal for school camps, outdoor adventure programmes, team building retreats, and group functions. As an add-on available for larger school camps, we also have our @The River Camp which can accommodate an additional 60 students.

In collaboration with the River House Collection, High Africa also offers luxury self-catering accommodation which can be booked separately (subject to availability)

HIGH AFRICA MAIN CAMP

This is the original camping area and offers comfortable en-suite bunk-bed accommodation for up to 80 students, with additional teachers' accommodation available in “Sugar Loaf” for 6 educators. The camp is home to "The Deck", an elevated lounge space overlooking the Breede River, as well as a cosy boma and a large multipurpose hall, perfect for groups of all sizes.

Under the Blue Gums Camp

This well-loved campsite sleeps up to 68 students in safari-style wooden bungalows with bunk beds, set on a lush lawn that stretches down to the river. Facilities include a multipurpose dining hall, communal bathrooms and separate teacher quarters for 7 educators with private bathrooms. For larger groups, the @The River campsite can be added for an extra 60 learners.

UNDER THE BLUE GUMS

@The River Camp

Perfect for larger school groups, this riverside campsite sleeps up to 60 learners in six bungalows with bunk beds, set within the expansive gardens of @The River on the banks of the Breede River. Facilities include communal bathrooms, and the camp can be added to Under the Blue Gums booking, so the whole group can stay together and share in every adventure.

The River House Collection

The River House Collection is offered as additional accommodation, separate from our school camp packages, and must be booked separately, subject to availability.

The River House

The River House® is an 8-bedroom, country style self-catering lodge on the banks of the Breede River, accommodating up to 16 guests. It offers generous living spaces, a bar, TV room, vine-covered courtyard, and a veranda with an undercover braai. Fully furnished, it also includes a pool table, canoes, a swimming pool, and full DSTV.

THE RIVER HOUSE

The Other House

The Other House® accommodates up to 18 guests. Situated next to The River House® is this 8-bedroom, modern and contemporary style self-catering guest lodge, perched on the banks of the Breede River. The house also has a high-ceilinged lounge area opening up into a large veranda with an undercover braai.

@The River

This stunning 3-bedroom luxury guest lodge sleeps up to 6 guests and is ideal for small family getaways. It can also be booked by schools during their school camps at an additional fee. For school camps, the expansive gardens are also home to the @The River Camp, with bungalows for an extra 60 learners.

How many people can you accommodate?

Our group camps can accommodate up to 208 students in chalets, with additional learners accommodated in tents. For smaller groups and families, the River House Collection sleeps between 6 and 18 guests per lodge.

What's the difference between the group camps and the River House Collection?

Our group camps, the High Africa Main Camp and Under the Blue Gums Camp, are designed for school camps, youth and RCL camps, team building and larger groups, with bunk bed accommodation and shared facilities. The River House Collection offers luxury self-catering lodges, ideal for families, private functions and smaller groups looking for a more exclusive stay.

Is there separate accommodation for teachers?

Yes. The Main Camp includes "Sugar Loaf", which sleeps 6 educators, while Under the Blue Gums Camp offers separate teacher quarters for 7 educators, both with private bathrooms. Teachers stay close to their learners while enjoying a comfortable space of their own.
