NSRI Water Safety Partnership

At High Africa, safety is at the heart of every adventure. That is why our facilitators have completed specialised training with the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), equipping them to deliver water safety education and support drowning prevention across our community.

 

Our team is qualified to present the NSRI's Water Safety Presentation and to teach its Survival Swimming Programme, which focuses on four essential life-saving skills: breath control, orientation, floating and moving through water towards safety. These skills help learners stay calm, conserve energy and respond confidently in unexpected water situations.

 

This partnership ensures that critical water safety education reaches a broader audience, helping to prevent drowning incidents and promote safer behaviour around water.

At High Africa Adventures, we take compliance and industry standards, both locally and internationally, very seriously. We don’t just comply, we aim to exceed industry standards. Our facilitators are trained by leading industry training institutions, both locally and internationally. Your group's safety is our top priority, and we know it's one of the first things teachers, parents and organisers want to understand. Here are answers to the questions we're asked most often about health and safety at High Africa.

How does High Africa keep groups safe?

Safety is built into everything we do. All activities are led by qualified, experienced facilitators, equipment is meticulously inspected, and we follow comprehensive emergency response protocols. We also work closely with leading industry organisations and specialist service providers to make sure our standards meet, and aim to exceed, local and international requirements.

Are your facilitators qualified?

Yes. Every facilitator is first-aid qualified and criminal record-checked, and most are Certified NSRI Water Safety Officers. Our team is trained by leading industry institutions, both locally and internationally, and holds specialised training across a range of adventure disciplines.

Which industry organisations are you registered with?

We're registered with, partner with or make use of the services of the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI), the African Ropes Course Association (ARCA), the African Paddling Association (APA), the SA Adventure Industry Association (SAAIA), Vertical Safety Systems and Priority Care Ambulance.

What happens if there's a medical emergency?

Our facilitators are first-aid trained and follow clear emergency response protocols for every situation. We also work with Priority Care Ambulance, so professional medical support can be called in quickly if needed.

How is activity equipment maintained?

All equipment is regularly and meticulously inspected, and we work with specialist providers such as Vertical Safety Systems to keep our activity areas safe and compliant with industry standards.

Is water safety part of your programmes?

Yes. Through our partnership with the NSRI, our facilitators deliver the NSRI Water Safety Presentation and Survival Swimming Programme, teaching life-saving skills to the schools and groups who visit us.
